Updated . How we count

Was it easy to use? What reviewers said

Share of reviewers who stated an outcome for ease of use. Ranked by the lower bound of a 90% confidence interval, so a product needs both a good share and enough reports to rank high.

The two Conair Double Ceramic irons differ by barrel size, and reviewers found the wider one easier: 25% of reviews for the Conair Double Ceramic 1-Inch Curling Iron call it hard to use, against 8% for the Conair Double Ceramic 1.5-Inch Curling Iron.

Where these numbers come from

The 4 products ranked here carry 2,003 reviews at Target. We read the newest reviews of each product (up to a thousand per listing), kept the ones that talk about ease of use, and counted up to 40 per product, posted between Apr 2018 and Oct 2026.

A review counts only when the reviewer used the product themselves. We drop reviews written in exchange for a free product or a sweepstakes entry (11 on this page), and products that are no longer sold.

Target also shows reviews first posted on brands' own websites. We show them on product cards but never count them, because brand-site reviews run more positive than store reviews of the same products.

Because we searched for the problem, people who had it are overrepresented. Compare products with each other rather than reading a share as your own odds.

Skin type, skin tone and age splits use what reviewers chose on Sephora's review form (and age on Ulta's when given). We only show a split when enough reviewers fall on each side.

Amazon buttons appear only on products that most reviewers here say fix the problem (at least 60%, with enough reviews to trust it). Everything else gets no buy link.

An AI model labels each review against a fixed list of points, and we spot-check the labels before publishing. We publish counts, never the reviews themselves.

Questions buyers ask

Which curling iron is easy for beginners?

Beachwaver B1 Rotating Curling Iron has the best record, with 32 of 35 reviewers calling it easy to use. Conair Double Ceramic 1.5-Inch Curling Iron is next at 22 of 26.

Is a rotating curling iron easier for beginners?

It was for reviewers here. Beachwaver B1 Rotating Curling Iron turns the barrel for you, which leaves you to guide the hair and hold still. Expect a few tries before it feels natural, like with any iron.

What barrel size should a beginner pick?

Barrel size alone doesn't decide it. Here the wider Conair did better than the narrower one, 22 of 26 against 17 of 28. Yet the wide Kristin Ess Soft Bend Titanium Curling Iron has the weakest record here at 6 of 15.

Should I use a heat protectant with a curling iron?

It's a good habit. Spray it on dry hair before you curl, start with a lower heat setting and turn it up if curls won't hold. A heat-resistant glove helps while you're learning.
