Face oil for oily skin

Sunday Riley U.F.O. Face Oil has the best record for oily skin, with 10 of 10 shoppers saying it absorbed without making them greasier or shinier and didn't break them out, though that record rests on a small group. The Ordinary Rose Hip Seed Oil follows closely at 21 of 23, then Fresh Seaberry Face Oil at 16 of 18, and the three oils after them fall from 78% to 60%. Each record counts just shoppers who said they have oily skin.

Where these numbers come from

The 6 products ranked here carry 16,405 reviews at Ulta and Sephora. We searched them for greasiness and read the newest matching reviews, up to 40 per product and store, posted between Jun 2018 and Sep 2026.

A review counts only when the reviewer used the product themselves. We drop reviews written in exchange for a free product or a sweepstakes entry (0 on this page), and products that are no longer sold.

Ulta also shows reviews first posted on brands' own websites. They run much more positive than store reviews of the same products (across 19 products with both, 76% of brand-site reviewers said the product solved the problem, against 55% of Ulta shoppers), so we show them on product cards but never count them.

Because we searched for the problem, people who had it are overrepresented. Compare products with each other rather than reading a share as your own odds.

Skin type, skin tone and age splits use what reviewers chose on Sephora's review form (and age on Ulta's when given). We only show a split when enough reviewers fall on each side.

Amazon buttons appear only on products that most reviewers here say fix the problem (at least 60%, with enough reviews to trust it). Everything else gets no buy link.

An AI model labels each review against a fixed list of points, and we spot-check the labels before publishing. We publish counts, never the reviews themselves.

Questions buyers ask

Which face oil works for oily skin?

Sunday Riley U.F.O. Face Oil has the best record (10 of 10), followed by The Ordinary Rose Hip Seed Oil (21 of 23), Fresh Seaberry Face Oil (16 of 18), Biossance Vitamin C Rose Face Oil (7 of 9), Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil (12 of 19) and Drunk Elephant Virgin Marula Facial Oil (9 of 15), in that order.

How many shoppers are behind each record?

The second number in each record is the group size. It runs from 9 shoppers for Biossance Vitamin C Rose Face Oil to 23 for The Ordinary Rose Hip Seed Oil, so every record here rests on a small group. Group size is built into the order, and records on small groups can move a lot as more reviews come in.

Do these records test what is in each oil?

They don't. The counts are what shoppers with oily skin said after using each oil, not a test of ingredients or of how skin reacts, so follow the label directions.

Which of these oils are sold on Amazon?

Sunday Riley U.F.O. Face Oil, The Ordinary Rose Hip Seed Oil and Biossance Vitamin C Rose Face Oil are sold on Amazon by the brand or Amazon itself, and Sunday Riley U.F.O. Face Oil is both the leader and the best pick sold on Amazon. Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil and Drunk Elephant Virgin Marula Facial Oil have no buy link here, because too few shoppers reported a good result for us to recommend them. We could not confirm an Amazon listing for Fresh Seaberry Face Oil, so it has no buy link here either.

HiveTried earns a commission when you buy through the "See price & reviews on Amazon" buttons. It never changes the ranking: the order comes from buyer reports only, and a product gets an Amazon button only when buyers here say it works.
