Where these numbers come from

The 7 products ranked here carry 12,169 reviews at Target. We read the newest reviews of each product (up to a thousand per listing), kept the ones that talk about pet hair, and counted up to 40 per product, posted between Apr 2020 and Sep 2026.

A review counts only when the reviewer used the product themselves. We drop reviews written in exchange for a free product or a sweepstakes entry (1 on this page), and products that are no longer sold.

Target also shows reviews first posted on brands' own websites. We show them on product cards but never count them, because brand-site reviews run more positive than store reviews of the same products.

Because we searched for the problem, people who had it are overrepresented. Compare products with each other rather than reading a share as your own odds.

We count what shoppers report. Nothing here is safety advice: use heaters, fans and other appliances as the maker's manual says.

Amazon buttons appear only on products that most shoppers here say fix the problem (at least 60%, with enough reviews to trust it). Everything else gets no buy link.

An AI model labels each review against a fixed list of points, and we spot-check the labels before publishing. We publish counts, never the reviews themselves.

Questions buyers ask

Which vacuum picks up pet hair?

Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Hand Vacuum has the best record (30 of 33), but it's a handheld. For floors, Bissell Featherweight Stick Vacuum (28 of 31) and Shark Navigator Lift-Away NV360 (25 of 29) come next.

Should I get a handheld or a full-size vacuum for pet hair?

It depends on where the hair ends up. A handheld is handy for couches, stairs and car seats, while a stick or upright covers floors. Among the handhelds here, Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Hand Vacuum did much better (30 of 33) than Shark UltraCyclone Pet Pro Handheld Vacuum (9 of 15).

Is the Bissell Featherweight strong enough for pet hair?

Many shoppers say yes: 28 of 31 said it picked up pet hair. 15% of its reviews call the suction weak.

Do cordless vacuums run out of battery too fast?

Some do, by shoppers' accounts. 16% of Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Hand Vacuum reviews and 26% of Shark UltraCyclone Pet Pro Handheld Vacuum reviews say the battery runs out fast. Corded models like Shark Navigator Lift-Away NV360 and Shark Rocket Corded Stick Vacuum don't have that problem.
