Updated . How we count

Did it irritate or break out sensitive skin? What shoppers said

Share of reviewers who stated an outcome for irritation or breakouts. Ranked by the lower bound of a 90% confidence interval, so a product needs both a good share and enough reports to rank high.

What stands out

The repeat complaint further down the list is irritated skin, mentioned in 54% of Huda Beauty's reviews, against 26% for Laura Mercier Translucent, 22% for Laura Mercier Ultra-Blur and 14% for Hourglass. These shares count every review of each powder, not just shoppers who stated a result, so read them as comparisons rather than promises.

Where these numbers come from

The 6 products ranked here carry 50,389 reviews at Ulta and Sephora. We searched them for irritation or breakouts and read the newest matching reviews, up to 40 per product and store, posted between Nov 2010 and Aug 2026.

A review counts only when the reviewer used the product themselves. We drop reviews written in exchange for a free product or a sweepstakes entry (0 on this page), and products that are no longer sold.

Ulta also shows reviews first posted on brands' own websites. They run much more positive than store reviews of the same products (across 19 products with both, 76% of brand-site reviewers said the product solved the problem, against 55% of Ulta shoppers), so we show them on product cards but never count them.

Because we searched for the problem, people who had it are overrepresented. Compare products with each other rather than reading a share as your own odds.

Skin type, skin tone and age splits use what reviewers chose on Sephora's review form (and age on Ulta's when given). We only show a split when enough reviewers fall on each side.

Amazon buttons appear only on products that most reviewers here say fix the problem (at least 60%, with enough reviews to trust it). Everything else gets no buy link.

An AI model labels each review against a fixed list of points, and we spot-check the labels before publishing. We publish counts, never the reviews themselves.

Questions buyers ask

Which setting powder works for sensitive skin?

bareMinerals Original Mineral Veil Powder has the best record (18 of 19), followed by Tarte Smooth Operator Tinted Pressed Powder (12 of 14), though both rest on fairly small groups. Next come Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder (24 of 33) and Hourglass Veil Translucent Setting Powder (11 of 15), both at about 73%, so their order is a close call. Reviews first posted on the brand's own site agree for bareMinerals Original Mineral Veil Powder at 10 of 10, which we show but don't count.

How do I try a new setting powder if my skin is sensitive?

Skin reacts differently, so patch test a new product first. Dust a little on a small area, such as along your jaw, and wait a day before using it more widely. Stop using anything that stings, itches or turns red, and see a dermatologist if a reaction doesn't settle. The records here are what other shoppers with sensitive skin reported, not a promise for your skin.

Does Huda Beauty Easy Bake Loose Setting Powder work for sensitive skin?

Poorly, going by what shoppers reported. It has the weakest record here at 5 of 17, and 12 of 17 shoppers with sensitive skin said it irritated or broke out their skin. These are shopper reports, not a medical fact about the powder.

Which of these setting powders can I buy on Amazon?

bareMinerals Original Mineral Veil Powder, Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder, Hourglass Veil Translucent Setting Powder and Laura Mercier Translucent Powder Ultra-Blur have official Amazon listings, sold by the brand or by Amazon itself. bareMinerals Original Mineral Veil Powder is the best pick sold on Amazon at 18 of 19, and it is also the leader. Huda Beauty Easy Bake Loose Setting Powder is sold there by a third-party seller. For Tarte Smooth Operator Tinted Pressed Powder, we could not confirm an Amazon listing.

HiveTried earns a commission when you buy through the "See price & reviews on Amazon" buttons. It never changes the ranking: the order comes from buyer reports only, and a product gets an Amazon button only when buyers here say it works.
