Where these numbers come from

The 7 products ranked here carry 4,720 reviews at Target. We read the newest reviews of each product (up to a thousand per listing), kept the ones that talk about clogs, and counted up to 40 per product, posted between Aug 2021 and Oct 2026.

A review counts only when the reviewer used the product themselves. We drop reviews written in exchange for a free product or a sweepstakes entry (8 on this page), and products that are no longer sold.

Target also shows reviews first posted on brands' own websites. We show them on product cards but never count them, because brand-site reviews run more positive than store reviews of the same products.

Because we searched for the problem, people who had it are overrepresented. Compare products with each other rather than reading a share as your own odds.

We count what shoppers report. Nothing here is safety advice: use heaters, fans and other appliances as the maker's manual says.

Amazon buttons appear only on products that most shoppers here say fix the problem (at least 60%, with enough reviews to trust it). Everything else gets no buy link.

An AI model labels each review against a fixed list of points, and we spot-check the labels before publishing. We publish counts, never the reviews themselves.

Questions buyers ask

Which drain cleaner clears clogs?

Liquid-Plumr Pro-Strength Hair Clog Eliminator has the best record (38 of 40), followed by Drano Hair Buster Gel (33 of 39) and Liquid-Plumr Pro-Strength Full Clog Destroyer (32 of 39).

What should I know before pouring a drain cleaner?

Read the label and follow it exactly. Never mix drain cleaners with each other or with any other cleaner, including bleach, ammonia or vinegar, and don't follow one product with another. Wear gloves and eye protection, keep the room ventilated, and don't plunge right after pouring a chemical cleaner, because it can splash back.

Which drain cleaner works on hair clogs?

The two hair clog gels did well. 48% of reviews for Liquid-Plumr Pro-Strength Hair Clog Eliminator and 38% for Drano Hair Buster Gel say it dissolved hair.

What if the drain cleaner doesn't work?

Some clogs need a second round, and 8% of Liquid-Plumr Pro-Strength Full Clog Destroyer reviews mention it. Check the label for how long to wait and whether you can repeat. If the drain still won't clear, call a plumber instead of trying a different product, and tell them what you already used.
